Brief History of the Shrine

Gokomere shrine was established on the 24th of April 1999,the Diocese of Masvingo was consecrated to our Lady, Mary Queen of Peace of Masvingo. After consultations and meetings the Diocesan Pastoral Council (DPC) and the Presbyteral Council recommended to His Lordship, Rt.Rev.Bishop Michael D.Bhasera, that it was a very good idea that the Diocese of Masvingo should have a shrine of our Lady Queen of Peace.

Hence on the 13th of August 2000 a chosen site within Gokomere Mission Farm was set apart and consecrated to our Lady as the Shrine of Mary Queen of Peace of Masvingo. Since then the Shrine has been visited by many people. These include the laity, the religious and the clergy from within and outside the Diocese.

It has been proved to be an icon of faith, which needs to be cherished and guarded in the Diocese.It is in this devotional spirit that the Local Ordinary came up with an idea of having a Diocesan Shrine Committee.
