Father Chagweda Auto-biography
Fr Oscar P. Chagweda was born on November 8, 1949 in Gutu, Masvingo. Rev. Fr. Chagweda went to Mazowe Pre-Major Seminary in 1998 where he did his first year of formation. He did his philosophical studies at St. Augustine Major Seminary from 1999 to 2001 and Theology Studies at Chishawasha Regional Major Seminary from 2002 to 2006. He is a holder of a Diploma in Philosophy from St Augustine’s Seminary, a Diploma in Religious Studies with the University of Zimbabwe, a Diploma in Theology with Chishawasha Regional Major Seminary. He was ordained priest on the 15th of July 2006 at St Joseph’s Parish in Beitbridge by the then Apostolic Nuncio to Zimbabwe, Edward Adams. His first assignment as a priest was at St Mary’s Mutero Mission in Gutu. After one year at Mutero Mission, Fr Chagweda was transferred to the Bishop’s house to work as the Bishop’s Secretary and working at St Barbra Mashava Parish as Priest in charge. During his stay at the Bishop’s House he was also Chaplain to the Catholic Students in Masvingo Region and also Assistant Vocations Promoter of the Diocese.
In June 2010 Fr Chagweda went for further studies in Rome and he holds a Diploma, Bachelors Degree, Masters Degree and Doctoral Degree in Sciences of Social Communications with the Salesian University. He completed his studies in Rome in 2016 and when he returned to Zimbabwe he was assigned to Bondolfi Mission where he is lecturing at Bondolfi Teachers’ College. To enable him to teach at a tertiary institution, Fr Chagweda did a post graduate diploma in Higher and Tertiary Education with Great Zimbabwe University. He is currently the Diocesan Chancellor and the Diocesan Coordinator of Social Communications.
